Update: Contract negotiations – Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)

netParcel is pleased to share that The Treasury Board of Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) have reached a tentative agreement. As such, the threat of job action at our borders has been averted.

Please see our original post on this matter below. Thank you!

We want to bring to your attention a potential strike that would affect any shipment imported or exported from Canada.

The Treasury Board of Canada and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are currently in contract negotiations with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC); the PSAC represents approximately 9,000 CBSA employees.

Recently, this union announced its members have voted in favour of job action, which could begin Wednesday, June 12th, 2024, if ongoing efforts toward an agreement fail. The parties will continue the mediation process until then.

If a strike is initiated, it is expected to impact non-essential CBSA operations. While fewer than one percent of shipments undergo inspection, general processing times for all CBSA clearances are anticipated to increase. Picketing at large ports may also occur, which could cause additional delays.

With the possibility of interruptions to general processing times for all CBSA clearances, we are committed to keeping our customers informed on the ongoing mediation and any impacts affecting your international shipments.

We will provide updates as this situation evolves.
